JIM WHELAN BOARDWALK HALL
Historic Boardwalk Hall, formerly known as Atlantic City Convention Hall, is a convention centre and an iconic landmark to Atlantic City. Built-in 1929 by architect Louis Sullivan and renowned engineer to the stars John Eberson, it was designed to attract the crowds that flocked to Coney Island for a glimpse of its iconic Dreamland Ballroom. With its stunning marquee, glittering chandeliers, and sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, it was at once Mid-Atlantic’s most spectacular entertainment venue for religious gatherings, political conventions and trade shows. It was once also a hallowed chamber of commerce.
Atlantic City was the ideal setting for the first Miss America Pageant. The city’s warm and inviting atmosphere attracted tourists eager to visit during the Spring Break season. The Boardwalk’s reputation as a major tourist destination grew from the popularity of the Miss America Pageant. It has also hosted stunning performances by legendary singers, exquisite ice skating competitions, and even heavyweight champions.
With our modern, new arena and an array of great year-round events, Atlantic City is a great vacation destination. Off late, it hosts art shows, house concerts, yoga festivals and more with the site of America’s oldest boardwalk arcade museum.
